The KELAB PUTERI LANGKAWI CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT, to raise funds for the children’s department at Langkawi General Hospital, took place at Gunung Raya Golf Resort on Saturday 2nd of August under a promising sky with the 46 golfers speeding off to their starting Tee’s at 8am. The first players were back in the clubhouse soon after noon ready for a refreshing drink and to make inroads into the buffet lunch catered for by the resort.

Twelve of our KELAB PUTERI LANGKAWI MEMBERS were at the clubhouse from 6am working with the resort staff to register the golfers and hand out the well packed goody bags and make sure that the day’s big event went smoothly. While the golfers, which included many locals, along with expat residents and tourists, were on the green the ladies then worked to sort out the winners prizes and trophies for the after lunch presentation. Speeches were made by our club president Khorshida Begum & by Mr. Lam manager of Gunung Ray Golf Resort. DJ Ray, from DJ Language Studio, kindly offered to compare for the occasion with local politician Yang Berhormat Mohammed Rawi bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Mr Lam, Tara Sundri – Kelab Puteri Event Organiser & Khorshida Begum handing over the prizes.

This event was the culmination of five months of hard work by the KELAB PUTERI LANGKAWI members who are mainly local business ladies who have now been joined by a number of ladies who have retired to Langkawi or are in transit on their sailing yachts. They all give a lot of their spare time helping the local community of Langkawi with their Charity work.

The club was established in 1992 and has no political affiliation. As well as organising many Charity Events over the years we also hold many social functions such as lunches and visits to local attractions. Mother's Day Celebration Dinner

Tuesday 13th of May saw 30 Kelab Puteri ladies with their guests at the Westin Hotel for a Mother’s Day buffet dinner. A long table had been beautifully decorated for us on one side of the restaurant, at each place setting was a gift of a specially decorated Mothers Day mug, compliments of Kelab Puteri. Fun and games started straight away and once the ladies had placed themselves comfortably around the table dinner began. The variety of seafood appetizers and main courses appeased the taste buds of all and the dessert choices were fantastic, everything was delicious. Indy & Carolyn had a arranged a number of games to relax and get the ladies in a fun mood. Many thanks, especially to Shida for arranging such a wonderful venue for this celebration and to everyone else who helped to make the evening so special.

Cooking demo at Kampung Tok Senik

The clubs outing to Kampung Tok Senik on Tuesday 29th of April started with a short update on the progress of our Golf Tournament. There were 12 members present along with 5 guests. Head chef, Razia, then proceeded to demonstrate a total of five dishes starting with Kangkong Belacan, a green vegetable dish. We had each been supplied with the list of ingredients for the dishes and as Razia and his assistant cooked we wrote down the method so we could try to duplicate the recipe at home. The vegetable dish was followed by stuffed squid, Sotong Sumbat, BBQ Fish, Ikan Baker Air Asam; then fried chicken pieces in spices which was to be added to the Chicken Soup, Soto Ayam. All the recipes were quite easy to follow and the aromas very inviting, the tasters also went down very well. By one o’clock we were all ready to sit down on the table and enjoy the menu above. Although the food was really delicious there wasn’t an awful lot of it to go around the 17 ladies and some didn’t get very much at all and went away more than a little hungry.

In 1991, a few Langkawi ladies got together and held their first Charity Dinner, the proceeds of which went to Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuah. Following its success, the ladies decided to form a social and registered charitable club—Kelab Puteri Langkawi (NGO). Today Kelab Puteri has a membership of around 30 ladies which includes a number of expats .
The clubs’ aim as always has been to provide charitable and social assistance for the benifit of all Langkawi residents and visitors mainly by supporting the Langkawi General Hospital.

2004 - Pillows donated to the homeless of Kuala Triang after Tsunami disaster.
2003 - Supplied porridge to a local Mosque during Ramadan.
2000 - Donation to the Health Department of Langkawi for a senior citizen seminar.
1999 - Organised pap smears for ladies of Langkawi.
1998 - Donation of Dialysis Machine to Langkawi General Hospital.
1997 - Charity Dinner at Sheraton Perdana Beach Resort to purchase a dialysis machine for Langkawi Hospital.
1995 - Profit from the above dinner was donated to the senior citizens of Langkawi and uniforms for students of Langkawi.
1994 - Charity Dinner at DeLima Resort.
1993 - Picnic at Mutiara Burau Bay for Sultanah of Kedah.
1992 - Donation of uniforms to student.
1991 - Charity dinner for a Kuah Primary School.
